Beatitudes Books

The Community of the Beatitudes founded a publishing house in 1984 “Éditions des Béatitudes”. Its vocation is to publish books that are both profound and accessible to all in order to contribute to the human and spiritual growth of each person. Our books are faithful to the Word of God and to the teaching of the Church, and aid in reflection, discernment, formation and deepening of spirituality, while shedding a Christian light on the questions of society.

The Community of the Beatitudes in Denver does not sell any books.  Some books are translated in English.

The Priesthood, Mystery of Faith. Priestly Ministry in the Magisterium of John Paul II

The Priesthood, Mystery of Faith. Priestly Ministry in the Magisterium of John Paul II

Nilson Leal de Sá, C.B., Catholic University of America

The title of this volume, “The Priesthood, Mystery of Faith,” judiciously borrowed from the penultimate Letter to Priests of John Paul II (2004), is fortunately chosen in many ways. On the one hand, because it reflects the familiarity of the author with the thought of John Paul II who, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of his priestly ordination, wished to share the memories of and reflections on his own vocation as a priest in a book entitled “Gift and Mystery” (1996). On the other hand, because it is truly in eminent fidelity to the fidei depositum (the deposit of faith) to which the pontifical magisterium of John Paul II testifies, offering to all, priests, laypeople, consecrated — in the light of the Holy Scriptures and of the Living Tradition — a deeper understanding sub lumen fidei (under the light of faith) regarding the intelligence of the inestimable gift that God makes to the whole Church through the sacrament of the Holy Orders. In this matter, as in many others, John Paul II was like a “head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old” (Mt 13:52).

God’s Ongoing Gifts to the Church

God’s Ongoing Gifts to the Church

Nilson Leal de Sá, C.B., Sophia Institute Press

Ecclesial movements and new communities were born or developed alongside the wave of conciliar renewal. Today, the Church challenges them to exercise discernment with regard to their identity and their insertion into the ecclesial mission. This book is welcome in the current context; it immerses us in the enthusiasm of Pope Francis: "You represent a missionary force and a presence of prophecy that gives us hope for the future". And, even “with the limits and sins of every day, you are a clear sign of the vitality of the Church. Whoever has been baptized has the task of evangelizing”, he repeats, and “you have reawakened this with your movements”. -Fr. Jacques Philippe, C.B.

Love in Action, God's Gifts for All

Love in Action: God's Gifts for All

Albert Vanhoye, Paulist Press

This brief work revisits two conferences given by Cardinal Vanhoye during the first international meeting on charismatic renewal organized in Asia in May, 2009. This meeting took place in South Korea, in Kkottongnae, the "village of flowers" in Korean, where a new community has been established composed of all walks of life that exhibit an apostolic activity in numerous fields, particularly the service of the poor. The author analyzes the texts of Saint Paul on charisms and charity and shows how they must come together in the life of the Spirit. He explains how to enter into a true putting into practice of the commandment of love given by God. He touches on two points in particular: the question of the link between charisms and love; then on the link between love and action, which permits him to clarify the place to give to works in the Christian life. Finally, in drawing from communion the strength to love, he shows how to live the Eucharist that is continued in each of our days.

Maryam of Bethlehem, the Little Arab

Maryam of Bethlehem, the Little Arab

Sister Emmanuel, Queenship Publishing Company

Maryam Baouardy is a daughter of Galilee, from a very poor family. At the age of three, she lost her father and mother and was adopted by her uncle. She never learned how to read or write, but her life became a remarkable succession of supernatural manifestations, worthy of Catherine of Siena or Teresa of Avila, from the stigmata to singular battles against Satan. This beautiful “Lily of Palestine” became Sr. Maryam of Jesus Crucified in the Carmelite Order. Both humble guardian of the grille and formidable forewoman, she was often visited by Jesus and Mary. The words she transmits from them, pearls of great price, are significant for us today as they enlighten the future of our broken world. Pope John Paul II beatified her on November 13, 1983.

It describes with real examples how cunning the Evil One is, and how easily we fall into his snares without realizing it.

The Rosary, A Journey That Changes Your Life

The Rosary, A Journey That Changes Your Life

Sister Emmanuel, Queenship Publishing Company

This book takes us on a journey through the mysteries of the rosary where we contemplate the lives of Jesus and Mary. Everything becomes real. We take Our Lady’s hand and enter the stable of Bethlehem and the Temple of Jerusalem. We walk with her on the roads of Galilee, we suffer with her in the howling crowd before Pilate, we rejoice with Mary of Magdala adoring Jesus, who is victorious over death. As we travel with her, we soak up the graces within each mystery, like children fascinated by what they are watching, and we are transformed by these rays of light that flow from the Gospel. Don’t just read this book; live it!

God’s Providence and Me

God’s Providence and Me

Evelyne Madre, St. Pauls Publishing

Abandonment to Divine Providence is a difficult concept in a world where people like to retain control over their lives and where there is a fear of having to do without material things. Yet if we really mean to put ourselves in the Lord’s hands, then surely we can and should rely on our Father to supply our needs. In this little book the author draws on her own and others’ practical experience and on the inspirational life of St. Joseph-Benedict Cottolengo to show how true, radical abandonment to Providence brings us close to God in our dependence on him and results in rich rewards.
